Ha Young Resumes Drama Filming for SBS's 'There Is a Chance' Following Family History Controversy

Actress Ha Young has returned to the set of the upcoming SBS drama There Is a Chance (working title) after a brief filming hiatus following public controversy surrounding her great-grandfather’s historical pro-Japanese activities.

On August 20, 2026, an official from Ha Young’s agency, Bisters Entertainment, confirmed to Star News, "Ha Young is continuing with her scheduled filming commitments for the SBS drama There Is a Chance." While earlier reports indicated that production was temporarily paused for approximately a week due to the actress experiencing psychological instability, the agency kept details measured, stating, "We ask for your understanding that it is difficult to disclose specific internal schedules or day-to-day progress updates."

Broadcaster SBS also addressed the ongoing situation, noting, "We are taking the recent matter concerning our cast member very seriously. We are carefully discussing the issue from multiple angles alongside the production company and relevant stakeholders, and we will provide updates through official channels once decisions are finalized."

Controversy and Formal Apology

The public backlash emerged after Ha Young mentioned on KBS 2TV’s Problem Child in the Rooftop that she came from a "four-generation family of doctors," noting her great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and older sister all pursued medicine. Online communities subsequently identified her great-grandfather as Ahn Sang-ho (1872–1927), bringing historical records of his pro-Japanese collaborative actions during the colonial period back into public view.

On August 12, Ha Young released a handwritten apology across her personal social channels, expressing deep remorse over her earlier remarks.

"Until now, I only knew about my great-grandfather’s life through fragmented stories passed down within my family. In my ignorance, I spoke proudly of him in various public settings," she wrote. "After looking into the historical records myself, I learned the truth regarding his pro-Japanese activities. I do not believe my previous ignorance excuses or diminishes that painful history. I take this mistake deeply to heart and offer my sincere apologies as a descendant."

There Is a Chance is an upcoming comedic legal drama starring Lee Je-hoon as a former lawyer turned unorthodox office manager leading an underdog legal team that pulls off unexpected victories in unwinnable cases.
