Actor Lee Soo-hyuk has officially withdrawn from the upcoming drama series Men of the Harem due to scheduling conflicts. A representative from his agency, Saram Entertainment, confirmed the decision on the morning of August 19, stating that the actor had to step down from the project after being unable to reconcile conflicting production timelines.
Based on the popular web novel of the same name, Men of the Harem is a high-concept palace romance fantasy. The narrative follows Empress Latil of the Tarium Empire, who strategically takes in several male concubines to stabilize her political power and protect her throne against rival factions.
The project had already drawn significant industry attention after confirming Suzy in the lead role of Empress Latil. Lee Soo-hyuk had initially joined the ensemble to portray one of the empress's concubines before his sudden departure.
Anticipation remains exceptionally high for the series thanks to its heavyweight production team. The drama marks a major collaboration between director Lee Eung-bok—known for mega-hits like Descendants of the Sun, Goblin, Mr. Sunshine, and Sweet Home—and acclaimed writer Hwang Jin-young of MBC's Lovers. Following Lee's exit, the production team is expected to begin recasting the role ahead of its upcoming filming schedule.
