Ryu Jun-yeol, Sol Kyung-gu, and Lee Kyu-hyung Lead Ruthless Identity Thriller in Netflix’s ‘Field Mouse’

Netflix’s upcoming chase thriller Field Mouse is gearing up for its global premiere, promising high-stakes suspense, intense character transformations, and a modern twist on classic folklore. On the morning of August 20, 2026, director Kim Hong-sun and cast members Ryu Jun-yeol, Sol Kyung-gu, and Lee Kyu-hyung gathered for a press conference at Hotel Naru Seoul M Gallery in Mapo, Seoul, to discuss the ambitious production.

Field Mouse follows Moon-jae (Ryu Jun-yeol), a reclusive novelist whose identity, face, and life are stolen by a mysterious figure known as "Rat." The narrative unfolds as Moon-jae, a relentless loan shark named No-ja (Sol Kyung-gu) seeking his lost fortune, and an intuitive detective named Sun-yong (Lee Kyu-hyung) collide in a high-octane pursuit to uncover the imposter.

Ryu Jun-yeol’s First Dual Role

Marking his first dual role since debut, Ryu Jun-yeol shared that the unpredictable script immediately hooked him. "The premise felt fresh—taking elements reminiscent of traditional fairy tales and reinterpreting them for a global audience," Ryu said.

To distinguish the two characters, Ryu focused on nuance rather than overt theatrics. "Rather than forcing visible contrasts, I honed in on subtle shifts in personality and gaze," he explained. "The voice became our main differentiator, especially during intense phone exchanges between the two."

Transformations and On-Set Chemistry

Lee Kyu-hyung drew laughter during the press conference while detailing his drastic physical transformation to play Detective Sun-yong. After initially gaining weight for the role, director Kim requested a sharper, leaner look just before shooting began. "I had to lose weight quickly and leaned a bit on modern medicine—using popular weight-loss treatments to fit the character's look in time," Lee candidly revealed.

Meanwhile, the dynamic between Ryu Jun-yeol and veteran actor Sol Kyung-gu provided plenty of lighthearted moments. Sol shouldered the majority of the demanding physical stunts, prompting Ryu to joke about his character frequently being knocked out during action sequences. "I felt guilty watching Senior Sol handle the heavy action while I was practically playing dead," Ryu quipped.

Sol praised Ryu’s meticulous preparation, noting, "Ryu comes to set with extensive research. He not only brought sharp insights for his own role but offered fantastic ideas for mine that we ended up using in final takes."

Field Mouse premieres globally on Netflix on August 28, 2026.
